Since Autumn has arrived with all the beautiful range of vibrant colors, start to think about your fall wardrobe and coordinating your makeup. It’s usually a good idea to have the basic, classic pieces in any wardrobe and add some of the newest items from the stores. Most people can’t go out and get a complete new wardrobe for each season and especially in a tough economy. That doesn’t mean that we can’t all look stylish and our best without spending a fortune!
Here are some tips for a great fall look starting with wardrobe and then on to makeup:
Go through the closet and see what’s already there to work with as a starting point. Look for the basics ie. slacks, shirts, sweaters, blazers. Line up all the items together ie. all slacks together, all blazers, all shirts, etc. That way, you can immediately see all the slacks you have and what you’d like to add. This also helps to mix and match pieces that you may not normally choose to wear together. Make sure they all fit well and if not, donate them to a needy charity or sell them at a consignment shop or on ebay if you have an account there.
Look at all your sweaters and cardigans next. Do they look good, fit well and have they maintained their shape? If so, they’re keepers but, if not add them to the donation box! Once you have organized all your clothes into categories, it’s easier to see what you have, what you are missing and what is going away.
What to wear:
Having some classic pieces in a wardrobe is essential if you want to wear them for several seasons. Have black , navy, cream and brown slacks, white and black button down shirts, solid color blazers in several colors like red, black, navy, cream, brown and of course, denim jeans. Owning some sweaters and cardigans that are solid colors will assist you in wearing them with several other items and you can change the look with your accessories instead of buying all new items each season. Although, it’s usually less expensive to buy a new sweater with a pattern in it and it can be worn with several other solid color pieces. So, when adding new pieces to your wardrobe make sure you have several things to wear with it to get the most use of it.
Wearing the right color for your skin tone:
Find out your color by looking at your skin tone. Are you warm or cool? Warm skin tone people tend to have green, hazel or light brown eyes, peach tones in skin and look the best when warm colors are worn on or close to the face. Warm skin toned people look best in olive, greens, browns, mustard, wines, peach and oranges. Cool tone coloring people tend to have blue or brown eyes, yellow tones in skin and look best when cool colors are worn on or close to the face. Cool skin toned people look best in red, blue, purple, burgundy and pinks. Knowing your best color by understanding warm and cool coloring will help you to always look and feel your best. Cool people can still wear brown but, it’s best worn on the bottom half of the body and not in a shirt for example. The wrong color will tend to make the face look droopy, sad, mad or dull. Try it by placing a purple shirt or scarf on one side of the face and an orange item on the other half of the face. One will make the face look uplifted, brighter and happier and that’s the right one to wear!
Makeup for your skin tone:
Once you’ve determined that you have the right wardrobe pieces for your skin tone coloring, do the same thing with your makeup. Be sure to wear olives, browns, greens, mustards, oranges and peach colors of makeup if you are warm skin toned and purples, pinks, blue, burgundy and red if you are cool skin toned.
